Meet Judge Taylor Bachelor

Judge Taylor Bachelor brings over sixteen years of dedicated legal service and leadership to her role as the presiding Judge of Shelby County General Sessions Criminal Court, Division 7. With a passion for criminal justice and a lifelong commitment to servant leadership, Judge Bachelor’s distinguished career reflects both depth and breadth across the legal spectrum—from state and federal prosecution to defense, judicial roles, and transformative community engagement.

Her legal journey began after earning her undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University, followed by a law degree from the University of Memphis. She later pursued theological studies at Memphis Theological Seminary, a reflection of her belief in the moral responsibility that underpins true justice. Driven by a calling to serve from the bench, Judge Bachelor has amassed hundreds of hours of continuing legal education, giving her a comprehensive understanding of criminal law from every angle.​​
Her leadership is marked not only by legal excellence but also by a heart for the community. Judge Bachelor is a devoted public servant who has contributed her time and voice to numerous organizations, including the Shelby County Drug Court Foundation, Women United for United Way of the Mid-South, and the Ben F. Jones Chapter of the National Bar Association. She also serves as a trustee at St. Paul Baptist Church, where her faith continues to ground her in purpose and humility.
Beyond the courtroom, Judge Bachelor is a wife, parent, and advocate for families. She is married to Dr. Samuel Bachelor, her best friend and greatest supporter. Together, they have embraced the joys of foster parenting, a role Judge Bachelor describes as one of the most humbling and rewarding of her life.
